I'd just like to say that you have no plan.--Dan Rydell

Lamb of God won't be playing the Forum because of their name. But, have no fear. Slipknot will still be performing.

The song that I'm listening to right now, begins, Get on with it. And, so I shall.

I weave around the kitchen, the wine flushing my face and knocking my sense of balance askew. V is a poet and a friend from high school. She sent me some of her work. I read it and think about it. I sit down at the keyboard and start to respond.

This is old hat for us. In High School, V wrote a series of essays she emailed to people that began, “Dear World,”. I always wrote her back, unintentionally turning her work into a dialogue. With good art, I can’t help myself. I have to respond.

I write V a four page letter, meaning to intersperse my commentary with bits of acutal letter where I convey information about what is going on in my life. I get in about a paragraph of what I’m up to in the span of four pages. The rest is critique and references to music and other art. I decide to burn her a CD, hitting print without rereading the letter.

I pull together thirteen tracks; I like the number thirteen. They are diverse in genre but all quality. I write up a track list and wonder how the hell this collection of songs will flow together. I pop it in the CD player and give it a listen. I drain my wine glass. I address an envelope. My head is bobbing to the music. I start my own writing.

That is my preamble.

Writing letters is enjoyable. I should do it more often. I get to thinking about letter writing and then about communication in general. Its boring to send people updates about what you are up to, especially if, for the most part, none of it has changed. We all breathe, we all eat, we all have moments of immense irritation. Life is meant for living. It doesn't exist for discussion. Stories, ideas, art...these things were meant for discussing. These are the things I think should be written down. Now, I know that I’m not in the majority on this one but I only want an update on your day if you really want to give me an update on your day. I don’t want one because its polite or because you feel you are obligated because of the discourse. If we're going to talk, if we're going to invest the energy in each other and the time, we should give more than the reader's digest version of things. There should be more to our exchanges than, "How are you?" and "I'm fine." Details are important. There is more than just the devil in the details.

On a completely unrelated note, Ha. I wrote that.
